Santa Barbara Georgian
Description
This Santa Barbara Georgian Revival home, originally built in 1907, held incredible architectural charm but required a full transformation to support modern living. Though rich in history, the layout was fragmented and the interiors were dated and worn. We wanted to create a home that honored its past while functioning beautifully for life today -timeless, elevated, and thoughtfully restored.
Design Approach
This project was an extensive, down-to-the-studs renovation. We reworked the flow of the home by relocating bathrooms and redesigning bedrooms, closets, and hallways to better support contemporary lifestyle needs. Original windows and doors were restored, and mouldings and trim were carefully replicated to match the home’s historic character.
Classic Georgian details were layered throughout - wainscoting, historic-feeling wallpapers, intricate tile patterns, and hardware and plumbing profiles that echo early 20th-century craftsmanship. Warm textures and coastal nuances softened the formality, while distinctive light fixtures added personality and architectural rhythm to every space.
Outcome
The result is a home that feels both timeless and renewed. Historic charm has been meticulously preserved, while modern conveniences and an improved flow make the home effortless to live in day to day. Every detail reflects a deep respect for the original 1907 architecture, transformed into a space that is gracious, functional, and beautifully suited for contemporary living.
